Varicose veins are a relatively common condition, and for many people they are genetic in origin. Varicose veins are more common in females, although males are also prone to develop them. In the U.S. alone, they affect about 23% of all Americans.

SYMPTOMS OF VARICOSE VEINS

Varicose veins may sometimes cause minor painful, though are mainly harmless and do not possess any symptoms, unless they are left untreated.

Superficial thrombophlebitis – the varicose vein is inflamed and tender. A clot is usually present in the vein.

Venous eczema – the skin around the vein may become dry and very itchy.
Venous pigmentation – this is brown staining of the skin around the ankle. It is due to the leakage of small amount of blood from the veins into the skin.
Venous ulceration – ulcers at the ankle
Swelling of the feet
Occasional blood clots in the veins
Infection of the vein
